The Ripple Effect

By:
Nancy Fierstien

When a father dies,
and he was loved,
all sighs become deep sobbing.
The earth no longer
bears his weight.
The universe starts throbbing.

Grief ripples through
each moment spent
enduring life without him.
It hurts to think
all you can do
is reminisce about him.

The love he gave
evaporates,
but then returns to you.
Don't hoard it; share
it. Pass it on.
It has more work to do.

Borrow the strength
you've seen him show.
Give strength to one another.
His passing marks
the time to start
to say “Good-bye” to mother.
