Got a Vision for Austin’s Central Library?
If so, the library wants to hear from you!
The Austin Public Library System is in the middle of a multi-year re-design of the Central Library downtown. In 2006, voters approved a bond to construct a new, 250,000 square foot, $90 million library to replace the 1979 John Henry Faulk building. The library’s collection outgrew the Faulk building 15-years ago.
But before construction begins, the commission and the architects want to know what some of the 500,000 yearly Faulk users want in a new library.
To that end, the library commission will hold two public hearings this month, during which you can weigh in on what you’d like the new library to include.
The hearings will be held:
Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 6-9 p.m. at the Carver Branch Library at 1161 Angelina St.
Thursday, Nov. 12, from 6-9 p.m. at the North Village Branch Library at 2505 Steck.
If you are unable to attend either of these meetings, you can fill-out and online suggestion card at www.ci.austin.tx.us/library/newaceform.htm.
Construction on the new Central Library is slated to begin in 2011, with the grand opening in Spring, 2013.
