Read-A-Thon Picks Artist & Gets Ready to Launch

BookSpring has selected eighth grader Chaaru Deb’s art to kick-off the 2010 Read-A-Thon in Austin.

Miss Deb, a student at Kealing Middle School, will see her art reproduced on T-shirts, posters and all media materials to promote the event.

This year’s Read-A-Thon, entitled “A Neighborhood of Readers”, will take place Jan. 25-Feb 5. During that time, kids obtain monetary pledges for the number of pages they read throughout the two weeks.

All money raised goes to support BookSpring’s mission of providing reading materials and literacy education to low income children. Last year, the organization assisted 60,000 children and their parents and provided 148,000 books to needy kids.

In case you’re unfamiliar with the name “BookSpring”, it is the non-profit organization created from the merger of Reading is Fundamental of Austin and the Capital Area Reach Out and Read.

For more information on how to participate in this year’s Read-A-Thon, log on to www.bookspring.org.
