Westlake Takes First Place in First Lego League Tourney

By:
Kim Pleticha

Building a robot resulted in a trip to Atlanta for four lucky —and very talented— boys from Hill Country Middle School.

Peter Driscoll, Garrison Hefter, Joshua Rothfus, and Akash Thaker took first place at the First LEGO League Central Texas competition. The win qualifies them to participate in the World First LEGO League Festival in Atlanta in April.

The First LEGO League competition isn’t just about building a fancy LEGO. It requires kids to create a real robot that can be programmed to do certain tasks. The competition draws science-savvy kids from all over the world to pit their robots against each other in head-to-head competitions.
