A group of sixth graders at Kealing Middle School clinched amazing bragging rights last month, after winning an international academic competition.
The students competed in the Knowledge Master Open, which required them to answer 100 challeging questions via computer. The kids competed against students from the United States and throughout the world, earning points for the speed and accuracy of their answers.
In the end, the Kealing students amassed 806 out of a possible 1,000 points to grab first place!
Team members include: Chiara Alvisi, Hunter Bagby, Max Chee-garza, Mason Clark, Mikayla Colletti, Pia Deshpanande, David Han, Blake Hance, Katherine Jones, Niels Kornerup, Ricardo Lopez, Isaac Metcalf, Ethan Russo, Jonathan Sadun, Nick Schatz, Noah Schatz, Judy Shan, Jasmine Stone, and Corin Wagner. They were coached by Ruben Valdez, Cara Crouch, and Will Shoaf.
The Knowledge Master Open competition is unique because it allows kids to compete via computer, rather than incurring the expense of traveling to a competition. It is sponsored by Academic Hallmarks, a Colorado software publisher, and is held twice per year.
