Austin 8th Graders Win Rourke Scholarships

Three Austin eighth graders have a jump start on their college funds, after winning the prestigious 2010 Seedling Foundation Rourke College Scholarship.

Shvanaka Ross, of Kealing Middle School, and Desmon Barrett and Monica Castillo, both of Martin Middle School, each received a $5,000 scholarship last month.

Administered by The Seedling Foundation, which supports public school students through an array of programs, the scholarships will be held in trust for the students until they graduate from high school and are accepted into a two year or four year college or university.
