The Austin Independent School District and the Austin Parks and Recreation Department are offering free food at school campuses and parks this Summer.
The meals are part of the Summer Food Service Program, which offers free meals to children regardless of their families’ income.
Unlike school-year food service programs, children may participate in the Summer Food Program without demonstrating need. That’s because an entire school campus is designated “eligible” if 50% of its enrolled students qualified to receive free/reduced price meal benefits during the school year (parks qualify if the closest school meets this criterion).
Children ages one through 18 may take part in the program, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
For a list of the 38 participating AISD schools and meal times, call 414-0251 or log on to www.austin.isd.tenet.edu/newsmedia/releases/?more=1833.
