Everyone knows a teddy bear can be a kid’s best friend. But for children who have been removed from their homes as a result of abuse or neglect, it also can offer security during a scary time.
So in June, the kids at The Children’s Center of Austin held a teddy bear picnic to collect stuffed toys for little ones at The Settlement Home for Children. The picnic, held concurrently at three different parks, resulted in the donation of 78 teddy bears to the local nonprofit.
“This was a wonderful opportunity for the children to experience charitable giving firsthand,” said Julie Keen, the regional director of The Children’s Center of Austin, in a press statement. “We are so proud to be able to donate these teddy bears to The Settlement Home for Children and we look forward to making this an annual community event.”
In exchange for their donations, the preschoolers received muffins and juice and got to listen to some live music.
