Full Transparency
In light of the season being a fully "transparent" season where we share with family and friends ... sometimes sharing too much. Where we tell stories with our children and with one another. I thought that I would share some of the interesting transparent things that now exist.
Transparent Marbles: Okay, the music in the video is a little bit cheezy (alright a lot cheezy) but the video is very cool! My background is not in chemistry, but in the biological sciences, so when I saw this I couldn't understand how it worked. At first I thought that it was some sort of illusion, but at the end of the video they explain how it works. It is a fun experiment that the kids will completely enjoy. If you do the experiment, leave a comment telling us how your kids (and you) liked it.
Transparent Fish: Just when you think that you have seen it all, here is a video of the Barrel Eye Fish. During this season when you have something on your mind and you may want to "hide" these thoughts, think of the Barrel Eye Fish that has a transparent skull. The BEF's eyes are embedded under a translucent dome which protects the eyes. When I showed this video to my kids they watched it multiple times and even called their mother over to watch! They definitely got a lot out of it. My son wanted to know where he could catch a fish like this. It lead to a great discussion on the deep sea!
Transparent Toaster: This falls into the category of "Very Cool" both in concept, design and utility! Unfortunately it does not exist yet, but this is the season of believing! First the design. My neighbor would say that this is very "Frank" (as in Frank Lloyd Wright). The overall visual design of this is simple and very cool to look at ... something that you wouldn't mind putting on your counter. Watching your toast cool, is somewhat cool, but the way that they do it, by heating up the two pieces of glass is very cool. And, well, the utility ... you can watch not only your toast burn, but many other things that your kids may want to burn right in front of their eyes. We'll keep our eyes open for the initial release.
