Weekend Top 10 FREE Events (June 8 - 10, 2012)

  1. Georgetown Music on the Square - Friday, June 8, from 6 - 8 p.m. Come to Georgetown, The Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas, for a FREE Summer Music Concert Series every Friday night, 6 - 8 pm, June, July, August! Bring a lawn chair or blanket, grab dinner to go, and enjoy free concerts under the shade trees on the Courthouse lawn.
  2. Austin Civic Orchestra at Zilker Hillside - Friday, June 8 and Saturday, June 9 at 8 p.m. The ACO will present its annual Zilker Park Pops Concert series. History of the March is the theme for 2012 with quite a collection of fine orchestral marches slated to be performed. Narration will be provided by Paul Gaffney, Dean of The Sarofim School of Fine Arts at Southwestern University. Featured as part of this program is the popular annual raffle drawing for a chance to conduct the ACO's finale performance of Sousa's Stars and Stripes Forever. These concerts are performed FREE to the public at the Zilker Hillside Theater.   3. Metz Movies Under the Stars - Friday, June 8 at 8:30 p.m.  Bring your own seating to enjoy Men in Black at the Metz Recreation Center. Dress the kids in bathing suits for splash pad fun and enjoy FREE popcorn and drinks! Contact the Metz Recreation Center at (512) 478-8716 for more information.  2407 Canterbury Street, Austin.
  4. Kung Fu Panda 2 - Friday, June 8 at 8:30 p.m. This event is FREE and open to everyone. Harper Park (Anderson Mill Limited District), 11040 Lake Creek Pkwy, Austin.
  5. Alamo Drafthouse Kids' Camp - Saturday, June 9 - Sunday, June 10.  FREE movies for children age 3 and up.  Please click on the links to confirm the showtimes, as they frequently change:

The Hill Country Galleria Saturday Night Concert Series - Saturday, June 9, from 7 - 9 p.m. Enjoy FREE live music from Ryan Harkrider & The Nightowls.  The interactive fountain will be turned off from 3 - 9 p.m., as it becomes the amphitheater stage.  Consider grabbing a cool treat from the nearby Amy's Ice Creams! Hill Country Galleria Amphitheater, 12700 Hill Country Blvd., Bee Cave.
  7. Cars 2 - Saturday, June 9 at dusk. FREE popcorn and other treats will be available for purchase. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair to set up at the 'Theater Under the Stars'. So that everyone can see the screen, please put blankets in the middle and lawn chairs on the outside. Please, no dogs at this event, but bring the kids and bring your neighbors!   8. Laura Freeman and The Hey Lollies at Ruta Maya - Sunday, June 10 at 10:30 a.m. Let the kids dance to the music, while you grab a cup of coffee.  3601 South Congress Avenue, Austin.
  9. Whole Foods Kids Club - Sunday, June 10, from noon - 2 p.m.  Love the ocean? Make your own sustainable fish. 525 N. Lamar, Austin.
  10. Hartman Concert in the Park - Sunday, June 10 at 7:30 p.m. In its tenth summer season, these FREE ensemble concerts take place in the Hartman Concert Park in front of the Long Center City Terrace and run on Sunday evenings through August 26th at 7:30 p.m. Each Sunday a different ensemble of the Austin Symphony will be featured. This Sunday, it will be Brass. Click here to see the program. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner and blanket and make it a group outing.
