Like many young players, Lulu is a passionate player. Although she does all of the typical girly things, like having tea parties and playing with dolls, what Lulu likes best is to shoot baskets. When the boys won't let her join their team, Lulu doesn’t fight or quibble: instead, she hosts a Basket Ball. Invitations are sent to teamless girls all over the world and they arrive in their best party attire, each holding a basketball. While trying to find the best players, Lulu realizes that "instead of uncovering a single star, She discovered the Milky Way." Whimsical ink and watercolor illustrations highlight lyrical text that’s filled with basketball terminology and will appeal to young readers who are both athletic and feminine. Basketball season got off to a late start this year and all of the news about the delayed season may focus more interest on the game. A lengthy glossary at the end of the book clarifies the meaning of game vocabulary.
