Inspired by The Cricket in Times Square, the classic tale by George Selden, this short illustrated story is perfect for emerging readers in first through third grades. Tucker Mouse gets trapped in a shoe store when the owner leaves for vacation. His friends, led by Harry Cat, try to get him out, ultimately using their wits to figure out a way to get Papa Bellini to open the door. The illustrations reflect the charm of Garth Williams' original pictures without copying. Kids may already be familiar with the characters, and the book provides a great opportunity to practice reading with a good story that is not repetitive like so many early-reader books. Other titles in the series include Tucker's Beetle Band and Starring Harry.
