High school sophomore and avid dog-lover Bailey Daily has a fervent wish: to have a boyfriend. Trouble is, she doesn’t know how to go about getting one. So she does something she absolutely shouldn’t do: she sets aside her identity, and very nearly her core values, in a quest to find the perfect boy. Through the course of three boyfriends, and the acquisition of their dogs, Bailey learns some crucial lessons about herself. Written primarily for young teens, My Boyfriends’ Dogs covers some serious issues —from sex to self confidence— in an engaging format. Although not religious in nature, the book does touch on the importance of God in Bailey’s life. The ending is satisfying, if a bit ham-handed to adult readers. Still, the overall message is important for girls embarking on the emotionally rocky teen years: stay true to yourself and you will find the happiness you seek.
