Stone Rabbit: Deep-Space Disco
Where else but in a graphic novel might young readers find spaceships, killer robots, video games and smoothies? Stone Rabbit is a bored little bunny with a very rich imagination. In the third title in Craddock’s series, Stone meets his evil twin. Switching places with Stone, Melvin the Plutarkian embarks on his quest to create havoc and achieve world domination on Earth. Meanwhile in outer space, Stone discovers that the alien spaceship he is on has the same controls as his favorite video game and he is a master player. The text is minimal and filled with video game terminology and sound effects vocabulary — exactly the kind of rip-roaring, crazy talk that many kids will love. The text is easy enough for children as young as seven to read alone, and harder scientific words are defined in a brief glossary. Some adults won’t get the text, illustrations, and zany humor, but kids who enjoy Dav Pilkey’s Ricky Ricotta books will find their fill of out-of-this-world fun in the story.
