Austin artist Monica Cravotta dreamed up the idea for this CD as a way to raise money for the Mothers’ Milk Bank at Austin. After many months of scraping together the cash for production, the CD is finally in stores. And what a CD it is! Featuring the vocal stylings of Cravotta and a host of other Austin musicians, and produced by the venerable Sara Hickman, this album packs a serious musical punch. Don’t let the childish titles of the songs fool you: “The Fox” and “Buzz On” may sound like kids’ tunes, but they’re beautifully written and performed — no bubble gum, Auto-Tuned junk here, not by a long shot. Indeed, the entire CD is sophisticated and just as suitable for after-dinner relaxation as nursery room lullaby. Libby Kirkpatrick’s “Mama” deserves some serious radio play, while “This Little Piggy” would fit in nicely (albeit somewhat humorously) at Blues on the Green. “Sweet Songs” is KGSR for the kids, and another reason we’re lucky to live in the Live Music Capitol of the World.
