Children love planting things and watching them grow and this activity-filled book offers more than 100 ideas for gardening and nature projects that are educational and entertaining. While the activities are targeted to kids and older elementary children can easily read the book on their own, the text really speaks to grandparents. Topics range from backyard exploring to working in the kitchen or creating a kitchen garbage garden. Non-gardening activities use natural products to create recycled art or turn planting implements into gifts (for example, the toad cottage of the title is a decorated terra-cotta pot turned into a home for garden critters). An abundance of photographs and illustrations ensure that both the adults and children will be able to follow the easy-to-understand instructions. Lovejoy is a regular contributor to County Living Gardener magazine and is a recognized garden expert.
