The Birds, The Bees and Me DVD
The promo on the back of the package claims this DVD “will easily substitute for the sex talk.” We beg to disagree. First of all, the video is only about 20-minutes long. How in the world can you cover the so-called “birds and bees” in 20 measly minutes? In the words of one of the Tester Mamas “Ain’t gonna happen!” The tester mamas also were offended by the cartoon graphic about sex — just seriously weird and uncomfortable, especially when you consider that the target audience is supposed to be about eight years old. The abstinence-until-marriage theme may appeal to some parents, but really, even that can’t save this DVD. Bottom line: if you simply can’t bring yourself to talk to your kids about sex, ask your local librarian for a good kids’ book about sex instead. This DVD isn’t worth the plastic it’s printed on.
We’re required to tell you that all Cool or Crummy items are sent to us by companies and PR agents; we do not purchase these items independently, they just show up on our doorstep. All items are tested by our Product Review Team, otherwise known as the Tester Mamas, who have children in the age ranges recommend by the items in question. As you can see, we’re brutally honest in our reviews so it should go without saying that we do not accept payment for product placement (but we have to say it anyway because this is, after all, a required legal notice).
