In January, the Austin Independent School District announced a proposal to close nine schools as a result of a $100 million budget shortfall.

So we’ve come to the point of closing schools because we don’t have the cash to run them.

Is anyone surprised? Really?

These are desperate times for public schools in Texas.

Some state leaders say the media is overplaying the budget story, that they don’t believe things are as bad as they are being portrayed.

Budget-strapped school superintendents are making a big mistake.

As I am sure you are aware, AISD is facing a budget crisis of unprecedented proportions.

Texas parents are rightfully upset that local school boards are proposing to close neighborhood public schools, increase class sizes, and lay off valued school teachers and librarians.

State legislators will be making decisions over the next few months that will determine the success or failure of millions of young Texans who will pass through public school doors for years to come.
